Last month I was in the USA to teach judo. During the big annual training camp in Charlotte, North-Carolina, I gave lessons for three days to different groups. The level varied from beginners to 7th dan and from 5 to 81 years.

It were long days with many hours on the mat. Especially the older judoka's were very inquisitive and wanted to know everything about basics, my championship attitude, tactics and special moves for competition.

Training camp in Canada

25 januari 2009

In the beginning of January I was in Canada to give judo trainings. I was invited by former competitor Nicolas Gill to head the annual winter training camp in Montreal.

Due to other appointments I could only stay for five days, but those days were fun and interesting. The group consisted of 200 judokas varying from 15 year olds to Olympians. Also some top players from abroad were present.

I could really teach and tell this group about all aspects of competition judo. We trained many techniques and made good randori. I have explained, demonstrated, answered questions en given tips and advice for improving their game of judo.

Nicolas Gill is national coach of Canada and the best competitor in Canadian history. I beat him in our only match, at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and we have always had a friendly relationship.
